Nagarkot Farmhouse

Just a short forty five minute drive away from bustling Kathmandu, Nagarkot is a literal breath of fresh air. The town has long been famous for its excellent weather and fantastic views…and Nagarkot Farmhouse is the best place in town to enjoy both.  The last ‘resort’ on a mountain already filled with many - the farmhouse has vast, unrestricted views and when the weather is clear, you are surrounded by snow peaked mountains from all sides. The excellent weather, the verdant green, the large space, the views and the cozy rooms are just perfect for a quiet mountain retreat.

The farmhouse is on an actual farm and you are surrounded by fruit trees of all kinds, from peaches to pears. Everywhere you look are flowers or fruits and butterflies and bees. There is nothing quite like sitting down with a book and a fantastic view while plucking and munching on grapes an arms length away. They’ll even send you off home with a jar of their homemade jam while you leave. All very homely and natural.

The land is on three levels on the side of the mountain sloping downward – giving you access to the views wherever you are. The first level has a cozy little cottage that doubles up as the bar and dining room – the open fireplace and library make it perfect for the cold winter nights. On the second level you have the first bungalow, with a few rooms  in a row, all looking out to the mountains. The last level has the ‘deluxe’ bungalow – much the same as the previous bungalow but with a large, common balcony surrounding all the rooms. Absolutely perfect to sit out in.

All buildings have been built with typical Nepali red brick – giving it a nice rustic feeling which blends in very well with its surroundings. The rooms are cozy with Tibetan motifs and my favourite - yellow and blue ceilings (typically Buddhist) which brighten up the rooms wonderfully.

This is the perfect place for anyone looking for a weekend away from the chaos of Kathmandu. The food is wholesome, the beds are comfortable and there are some great walks with excellent views to be had. Even if you spend all day just sitting in your balcony, you won’t regret it!

Choose from a wide selection of responsible local accommodations and holiday operators that care deeply about the places that they live in and you would like to visit.
