Pension Tushita has a nice relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The garden is full of unusual plants – orchids, special herbs, a grape vine and flowers that give away the owner's keen interest in plants. The restaurant, as well as providing local and Japanese dishes to guests, is open to non-guests and is one of the best organic kitchens in Lakeside. Most of the food is sourced from Rajesh's own organic farm just outside Pokhara (where you can stay - see Tushita Eco Farm Homestay).
There are twelve rooms, making for a nice, intimate place to stay whether just one night or for a much longer stay. Many guests come back time and time again.
There is a well-equipped music room, where if not playing on one of the instruments, guests can practise yoga, meditate or just relax. In Pokhara, there is a lot to do, from paragliding, walks, boating, volunteering or just chilling out. Sightseeing can keep you busy: an interesting museum of mountains to visit, temples, an old bazaar, waterfalls and many other attractions.
As well as using natural and organic products, Tushita's follows many excellent environmental practices, using solar energy for heating water and cooking, conserving water and recycling. Newspapers once finished with are donated to street vendors to wrap the food they sell; kitchen food waste is never wasted as this is used to feed the pigs at the eco-farm. In addition, Rajesh is very involved in a multitude of local community projects, from getting villagers to make hand-painted fans to sell in Japan, to supporting women's groups to make a range of handicraft products that are sold in the hotel's shop. As well as providing home stay accommodation in his own Tushita Eco-Farm where guests can get a glimpse of family life and learn more about organic farming, he is helping support a nearby community that are planning to set themselves up as an eco-village with home stay accommodation for guests.
