The passion, personality and perfection of its owners Bunty and Bindu are in the details – the sensational food throughout the day, the luxurious, cosy and well-appointed rooms, the welcoming sundeck overlooking the lake, the consistent fish motifs in surprising new forms all over the property, – and best of all, the smart, cheerful and perfectly trained staff often just a finger snap away.
Whichever of the 12 rooms you choose to pick, you get your own balcony and a view of the lake. And the view inside the rooms can be equally engaging – from the antique-styled furniture, the wooded roof tiling and stone walls, to the ‘hottie’ waiting in bed – your own quilted hot water bottle under the sheets right and ready when you slip between the covers after a delicious day out!
Bhimtal Lake and its surrounding Naukutchiatal and Sat Tal lakes are as yet a relatively well kept secret, and unusually pristine. The property conducts fishing, boating, bicycle excursions and treks on the hills and lakes, and they pack outstanding food packages for trips. Even if you decide not to step out at all, the ‘home-like’ atmosphere with the Lodge’s well stocked library, board games, fireplaces and Bunty’s incredible collection of music, all make this an ideal getaway for families, couples and even singles.
I got the cheery sight of the Lodge’s kitchen gardens while I drank tea from my private balcony. You may catch the chef picking a fresh batch of parsley or vegetables for your meal. Even though water seems to be abundant here, sound eco-principles (solar heating, no bath tubs, etc) are a focus here. There is also strong support for local NGOs and concern for nature and the environment.
