Barefoot at Constance Bay

Just 45mins away from Port Blair, but a world away from the sea of humanity, is a 6-tent castaway escape called Barefoot at Constance Bay. Launched just a few months ago by the same folks who run the primo eco-lodge, Barefoot at Havelock (also in the Andaman Islands), this 2nd property is situated on a small layout that is part of a larger 20-acre reforestation initiative.

The lodge is set towards the southern end of a farming village located by the beautiful Sunset Bay beach at Colinpur, and it offers a tranquil setting with views towards the Marine National Park. The lodge is recommended for those visitors who want to overnight in South Andaman and wish to experience the natural beauty of the Andaman Islands in a rustic beach setting.

The six tents have been built with all locally sourced natural materials (except the tents) and were built completely using local labour, contractors and carpenters, generating significant economic benefits to the local community at the village of Colinpur. In addition, 100% of the staff is local and either lives on the premises or are within walking distance of the lodge. Plus, there is an uninhibited innocence and genuine warmth when you go for a walk to the little hamlet of Colinpur to see what the local farmers and fishermen have brought in for the day.

The tents are basic but well furnished; the food is simple, Indian, and wholesome. But when it comes to the setting – nothing can be more premium than this. The beach has an undiscovered quality about it (they make no effort to relocate driftwood, fallen tree trunks, or other ocean debris!), the sunsets are almost in IMAX format, and the snorkelling in and around the Marine National Park is nothing short of sublime.
