Karnali Tented Camp

Overlooking the river, the safari tents are the ultimate in camping. All with attached and fully equipped luxury bathrooms, these tents bring a whole new meaning to 'camping.'  A night spent here – hearing the sounds of the wind in the trees, the melodious warbling of birds and call of deer - is a fabulous experience you will never forget.  The camp is a perfect place to really get away from it all. Remote, totally unspoilt, Bardia National Park in the far west of Nepal is the largest in the Terai. Few visitors seem to even know it exists. You cannot help but feel very privileged to be able to stay in such a beautiful and untouched wilderness.  And in total comfort too!

The tents come with everything you could want for a comfortable night.  Anyone really interested in nature would love this place.

From the Tented Camp, take a jungle walk to see all kinds of birds and animals. I saw monkeys, deer, porcupines and a civet cat, all within a couple of hours. I also saw wild elephant, one-horned rhino - tigers and leopards can be sighted from here too, though I was not so lucky. This area is rich in big cat prey.

Take a jeep safari or a short drive to where you can meet the elephants from the nearby Karnali Jungle Lodge to take you for elephant rides. Go rafting along the Karnali and its tributaries.

The Tented Camp offers a very different experience to the Lodge, just a 45-minute drive away. Here inside the jungle, you are likely to see other types of small mammals and the forest itself is very different. The experience of being under canvas in what seems like a huge wilderness is a thrill in itself.

The Tented Camp takes extreme care of leaving as small a footprint on the environment as it can, bringing out most of what it takes in, composting everything that is biodegradable. The Camp is run with the Lodge that also functions in an extremely environmentally and socially responsible way.
