Barefoot at Havelock
The Andaman Islands are India’s mysterious little secret. Picture this - stunning beaches, pristine coral reefs, giant tree forests, active volcanoes, swimming elephants, elusive dugongs and big, big fish all in one place. Experience all this (except the volcano!) at ‘Barefoot at Havelock’, a little eco-hideaway located exclusively on the quirkily named Beach No. 7 at Havelock Island - which TIME Magazine rated as the best beach in Asia.
The barefoot philosophy means a low-impact footprint - so only natural indigenous materials have been used in the living and recreational spaces. Set behind a pristine 2 km stretch of white sand and giant tree forest, the resort consists of 18 beautifully designed and environmentally sensitive cottages hidden in the tropical foliage with plenty of privacy (its an 8-acre property, so you can get a bit lost!). You can either just sit back and relax or do a lot outdoors - snorkelling & diving, sea-kayaking, swimming in the ocean with Rajan, the resident elephant, yoga, nature walks and birdwatching. ‘Barefoot at Havelock’ is ideal for single travelers or couples looking for an unpretentious hideaway holiday in one of the world’s last undeveloped tropical islands.
Barefoot is strongly involved in the local community – it has set up an Environmental Education Centre to create awareness and educate the local community on marine conservation; sponsors local festivals, employs almost 95% of its staff from local community, and funds and supports the Andaman & Nicobar Environmental Trust.
