Montego Bay Beach Village is the quintessential Goa experience. Laid back, unpretentious and easy. The ‘reception area’ is the bar (!) and the ‘lobby’ is your typical Goan beach shack. There are log cabins and tents leisurely spread out amongst a shady coconut plantation with a 100 year old Portuguese house (perfect for a family vacation) and a small Casa with A/C rooms- their only extravagance. And they all look out to the gleaming expanse of sea that lies ahead.
All in all you have 100000 square feet of plantation to play ‘Mowgli’ in. The space is large enough for you to feel isolated from the rest and give you your own piece of paradise under the coconut palms. The tents are basic, made of canvas and comfortable from the inside though by no means luxurious. The log cabins are made entirely of wood, are quite basic though they do feel cosy.
The whole resort works on the basic premise that if your location is good enough, nothing else really matters – and they are right! With a beautiful, surprisingly pristine beach right at your doorstep, it doesn’t take much for you to be happy. So maybe hot water comes to you by the bucket and there really isn’t any concept of ‘service’ here (you go to the bar when you need something) – you’re too blissed out with your day on the beach to really care.
There is a quaint ‘back to nature’ feeling here. You will wake up to chirping birds, have an early morning cup of tea by the sea, a long breakfast and spend the rest of the day on the beach. You never need to wear shoes, everything you might need is 50 metres away from you and the views from your chair on the porch are beautiful at sun set.
Interestingly, they have become famous for the beautiful beach weddings that they organise, with many young couples from Bombay choosing Montego Bay for their dream ‘barefoot on beach’ wedding. Bring your children, your friends or your loved one; leave your conceptions of a ‘beach resort’ behind and indulge in some good old beach bumming!
